Designing for diversity in public spaces
We know that public spaces are key sites for enabling social connections, cultural expression, recreation and heritage. But not all spaces are welcoming to everyone. Subtle signs and signals can influence whether people feel a place is meant for them. It’s understood that co-design is essential to make public spaces that work for all. BIO
Dr Bridget Snaith CMLI is a Landscape Architect with thirty years experience in community centred landscape design and co-design. She is an academic and Lecturer in Landscape Architecture Design Practice at the University of Sheffield. Her research focuses on equity and social justice in the design and management of green spaces, and the role that designers and other placemakers play in sustaining cultural inequality. She was part of the team at Sheffield who co-authored Natural England’s “Included Outside” publication series, published in 2022.
